AHDRA® All Harley® Drag Racing Association Do-Rock Racing Ends Season In Style
Rookie season full of accomplishments….
The All Harley® Drag Race Association finished its season in Las Vegas this past
November, with a new team scoping out the top spot. Harley-Davidson/Buell of Bloomington’s Jeff Stevens and the Do-Rock Racing Team started out the season as
rookies in a sport dominated by veterans in motorcycle drag racing. The team finished the season Nationally ranked, taking the 8th position of the Super Gas and V-Rod® Destroyer™ class divisions, in a field of 85.
This is a fine finish by any measure, but don’t get comfortable. Jeff and team technician, Rich Hankins, already have a bead on what it’s going to take to make their goals for the 2007 season kick-off in Ganesvilles this March. What? Future planning already? Where’s the celebration? Where’s the pomp and circumstance associated with an achievement of this caliber? How about resting on laurels? Doesn’t anyone do that anymore? Some may, but Team Do-Rock with Jeff Stevens at the helm are motivated to take the team to that next level.
The motivation to drive forward into victory is strong with this group, and one can’t help but pick up on that in conversation with Lead Technician, Rich
Hankins. “We knew we would have growing pains when we started,” Hankins said, “but with a race time of 9 seconds, you just can’t make any mistakes. The
season has gone pretty well for us, with the exception of losing our transmission in Iowa. With our win in Bristol, we thought maybe we were on to something. We want to be a worthy opponent for some of the circuit veterans.
I’d say we want to take advantage of any team that doesn’t perform perfectly and get ourselves in the top 5 nationally."
When we started talking about the allure of drag racing, it became clear that the people they’ve
encountered this year is a strong attraction to the sport overall. “It’s a real family affair”, Hankins says, “with wives as time keepers for their husbands and fathers and sons working together. The people we’ve met are great.” There is surely an adrenaline rush too, when a person stands 6ft from a motorcycle doing a burn out. It’s all in a days work for the team technician.
It’s been a great year for the team. They originally started out just wanting to be able to qualify and ended the season in the top 10. Victory is sweet and a
great motivator. Congratulations go out to Harley-Davidson/Buell of Bloomington Racing and a successful Rookie season!
